HauptbeschreibungLike many others, I was intrigued by the work of J. Rogers and E.J. Hollingsworth on the organizational factors contributing to radical innovations in science. This book offers the essence of their life-long work on the links between organization and scientific breakthroughs. It should be read by anyone interested in setting up the right conditions for a creative scientific work environment. Helga Nowotny President, European Research Council This major study of scientific creativity and development brings together in a highly innovative manner social science concepts and empirical materials. This is of course a major area of interest to scientists, social researchers, and policymakers. The Hollingsworth authors identify and elaborate systemic, institutional, and psychological factors to explain differential rates of innovation and development among individual scientists and research groups. Tom Burns Professor Emeritus of Sociology, Uppsala University, Sweden and Visiting Scholar, Woods Institute for the Environment, Stanford University J. Rogers Hollingsworth is Professor Emeritus in the Departments of History and Sociology, University of Wisconsin–Madison. He continues to direct a research program at the University of Wisconsin, is a visiting scholar at the University of California San Diego, and is a Senior Scholar at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. She is the author or editor of six books and author of many scholarly papers. Her more recent research includes a book on the history of the basic biomedical sciences at the University of Cambridge.
