Luis A. Oro obtained his Ph. D. from the University of Zaragoza in 1970. His post-doctoral studies were undertaken at Cambridge University. He has served on the faculties of the Universities of Zaragoza, Madrid Complutense, and Santander. He became full professor of Inorganic Chemistry in Zaragoza in 1982 and served as head and founder of the Homogeneous Catalysis Institute (2004-2013). He has (co)authored well over 600 scientific papers, several reviews and some books on synthesis, reaction mechanisms and homogeneous catalysis of platinum group metal complexes. He has received several Honoris Causa Doctorates. He is member of several international scientific academies, and recipient of many prestigious awards including Humboldt Research Award, King Jaime I Research Prize, Aragón Prize, Sacconi Medal, Gold Medal of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry, National Research Prize for Chemistry and Lord Lewis Prize from the Royal Society of Chemistry. He has been President of the EuropeanChemical Society (EuChemS) (2008-11).
