The Author: Änne Bäumer-Schleinkofer was born in 1957. After studying classics and mathematics in Mainz and Vienna, she took a Ph.D. in classics. From 1981 to 1982 she did research work at the German Copernicus Research Center. From 1982 to 1985 she studied Biology in Mainz and took a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences. From 1986 to 1987 she was on the Faculty of Mathematics in Mainz participating in the «Copernici opera minor» research project. From 1987 until 1992 she was an Assistant Lecturer for the History of Science at the Faculty of Mathematics of the University Mainz, and after her habilitation for the history of science in June 1991, she was appointed a Lecturer in February 1992.
