Research on the foreigners studied in Germany is one of the important research areas in the historical relationship research. The foreigners or foreign students contributed much to culture transfer and intercultural understanding. Their learning and living experiences in Germany are of great importance for culture transfer and intercultural understanding. In addition to the qualitative research, the quantitative research should not be despised. In the quantitative research of the foreign students, there are a number of publications. Daniela Siebe published a book on foreign students in Giessen in 2000 and in 2009 he published another book about the foreigners in German universities between 1870 and 1933.1 Many researchers are driven by countries, in particular the students from the U.S.A, Russia, Hungary and Japan.2 Among studies about the Chinese students in Germany, there are some publications. Harnisch's habilitation thesis is seen as the first work in this area. He researched the Chinese students who had great influence in China.3 Kaderas and Meng Hong wrote a book about the Chinese students in Germany after a DAAD conference in 2000.4 In 2005, Meng Hong wrote a dissertation, she researched the Chinese students in Germany from the perspective of social modernization. 5 Güttinger researched some Chinese students in his book, and also Yu-Dembski.6 Xu Jian wrote an article on this subject, with the materials in the Chinese archives, he analyzed the number of Chinese students in Germany in the Later Qing Dynasty (1860-1912).7 Yuan Qing researched the Chinese students in Germany from 1912 to 1949.8 In addition, some Chinese researchers, such as Ye Jun, Mai Jinsheng, are very active in this area. In addition, Yuan Tung-li published a book in 1964; he gathered the titles of the dissertations that were written by the Chinese in Europe 1907 to 1962. 9 An extensive study in the area is rarely seen. Perhaps the subject is so broad that, it is impossible to write a book covering all the Chinese students in Germany. But it is possible to find the information through the recherché in a university archive. The Friedrich-Wilhems-University zu Berlin (FWU) was the largest university in Germany until 1945. According to Yuan, one-third of Chineses doctor holders studied in this university.10 It is therefore useful to analyze the names, the study subjects, and the study semesters of Chinese students in this university. By recherché in the Official List of Staff and Students at the Royal Friedrich-Wilhelms-University zu Berlin (Amtliches Verzeichnis des Personals und der Studierenden der Königlichen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin) from the winter semester 1830/31 to the winter semester of 1917/18 and in the Official Personal List of the Friedrich-Wilhelms-University zu Berlin (Amtliches Personalverzeichnis der Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin) from 1918 to 1937, the name list of Chinese students who were enrolled at the FWU is found.11 These names can be added to the student names in the Official Personal List of the Friedrich-Wilhelms-University zu Berlin (Amtliches Personalverzeichnis der Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin) from 1937 to 1945, which locates at the reference room (Lesesaal) of the Central Library of the Humboldt-University zu Berlin. In the Computer and Media Service, the matriculation books are being digitized but are not yet published.12 In the search of the the names of Chinese students, many words can be discovered in Chinese literature and biography, which were made by the students themselves as well as by their friends or researchers. Some described themselves to have gain doctorate degrees, but in fact they had not written any dissertation and did not have honorary degrees. Some students enrolled in the university, and marked the enrollment with such words as "student at the research level (Yuanjiuyuan)", which was the same in the American Graduate School, although he/she studied only in the university's first semester. Some had not studied at all, but did something else in Germany, but after their return, they also claimed to have studied in Germany (Liuxuesheng or Deguo Liuxuesheng).
