Prof. Haibin Yu has been with Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) since April 1993, and currently is the director of Shenyang Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He received his B.S. and M.S. from the Northeastern University, Shenyang, P.R. China in Industrial Automation in 1984 and 1987 respectively, and Ph. D degree from the same university in Control Theory and Control Engineering in 1997. Prof. Yu’s primary research interests are in industrial communication and control systems, and the development of industrial sensor network technology. His research has been funded by both basic and applied research agencies in China, including Preliminary Program by National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), National Natural Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, Key Project of National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Major Program on Science and Technology, Main Directional Program of Chinese Academy of Sciencesand National High-tech R&D Program of China (863 Program). His research group at SIA has published more than 200 technical papers and two books. His research work has continually received national recognition through winning several prestigious awards such as the State Technological Invention Award, State Science and Technology Progress Award, and Provincial and Ministerial Awards. The Wireless Networks for Industrial Automation-Process Automation (WIA-PA) technology standard proposed by his team was approved by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) as an international standard: WIA-PA Communication Network and Communication Profile 62601 in 2011. He is an ISA Fellow.
