The Entrance Hall
Between 1938 and 1939, the architect Albert Speer built the New Reich Chancellery on Voßstrasse in Berlin. In this building ensemble consisting of several sub-buildings, in addition to many office spaces, a series of representation rooms was also created. Adolf Hitler commissioned Albert Speer to make these rooms as impressive as possible. Hitler wanted to use these magnificent… rooms to demonstrate his power to state guests and subordinates. Albert Speer built a series of representative rooms in the New Reich Chancellery that Hitler’s guests had to pass through on their way from Wilhelmplatz to his office in the Führerbau. The Entrance Hall described in this book had a special function in this sequence of rooms. After the Court of Honor, they formed the first interior space of the New Reich Chancellery. With its bronze and artfully crafted entrance door, the walls clad in light red marble, the gold-plated wall sconces and the elaborately crafted furniture, the Entrance Hall formed the representative reception room of the New Reich Chancellery. The entire construction history of the Entrance Hall is described in this book. Starting with the first draft by the architect Leonhard Gall in 1937 up to the destruction of the Entrance Hall in the years 1945 to 1950. The technical features, such as the control for the automatic air conditioning system installed in the Entrance Hall, are also discussed. The different design versions, varying furnishings, different lighting and architectural features are also described in detail.
The “Work Analysis” book series
This book series presents an architectural analysis of the works of various architects of the Reich Chancellery. The books in the series are illustrated with numerous color computer graphics and historical photos. The computer graphics were created by Christoph Neubauer in order to be able to depict the areas of the Reich Chancellery that are not preserved in historical photos. This makes it possible for the author to show every construction detail he describes in full color illustrations. This book series focuses on the analysis of the architecture of the Reich Chancellery. The individual books in the series are strictly separated into the sub-areas of architect, creative period and component. Since there is no predetermined order in which the various books should be read, the reader is able to independently sort the various books in the series according to the various sub-areas.
