The revised third edition of Sogang Korean has been designed by the teachers at the Korean Language Education Center of Sogang University, leveraging years of classroom experience to create a resource for effectively learning both the language and culture. It reflects the latest trends in response to a changing world and incorporates feedback from dedicated users, enhancing usability for both… instructors and learners.
The curriculum for the third edition of Sogang Korean Level 1 is structured to provide 200 hours of instruction: 100 hours for speaking, 25 hours each for reading/speaking and listening/speaking, and 50 hours for writing.
In this edition, the existing Sogang Korean Student’s Book 1A/1B and Sogang Korean Workbook 1A/1B have been revised, while new titles such as Sogang Korean Hangeul and Sogang Korean Writing Book 1A/1B have been introduced.
The decision to publish a writing textbook was made in response to continuous requests from teachers. Writing materials that had long been used internally at the Korean Language Education Center were reorganized and supplemented to meet this demand.
The content of the Sogang Korean Student’s Book is designed for intuitive comprehension, with illustrations that help learners grasp context at a glance. Vocabulary and grammar are practiced through dialogues and activities to develop both fluency and accuracy.
Scanning QR codes provides access to recorded dialogues, while the appendices include engaging and unique dialogue activities from Sogang. Translations of vocabulary and expressions within their contextual meanings are provided in a separate Grammar and Vocabulary Reference Book.
The cultural sections feature photos and illustrations to ensure understanding, and QR codes link to YouTube videos on Korean culture and Hangeul learning, offering insights into real-life Korean contexts.
The third edition aims to serve as a valuable resource for Korean language learners interested in Korean culture and for instructors preparing efficient lessons.
