The manual also clarifies directions such as “pull to the elbows” and “widening the upper parts of the arms”, phrases used by F. M. Alexander. Part Three, Directed Activities, is published in Volume 2. Emphasis in both volumes is on the primary purpose of training teachers: to maintain the use of the self by inhibiting, directing, and thinking in activity while learning hands-on skills. A Manual of Alexander Technique Teacher Training is primarily for teachers who are teaching on training programmes that are grounded in hands-on skills. However, the principles and processes of learning these skills are transferable and may be applied to any activity in life and intelligently adapted to the reader’s own situation.
