Pillai is an Associate Professor of Law at the School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala, and the Coordinator of the Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer Chair on Human Rights. He previously taught at Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur. Holding a Ph.D. in Law from CUSAT, he has also qualified the State Eligibility Test for Law. Recognized for academic excellence, he has received prestigious honors, including the Distinguished Young Faculty Award (2017-18) from CUSAT and gold medals for his first rank in LLM.
