Through the voices of mostly male characters, the author critiques the way women were objectified and reduced to mere decorative roles in society. Women's intellects were often disregarded in favor of their beauty, which existed solely to serve the male ego.Despite its cynicism, the novel offers a sharp, empathetic understanding of the human condition, particularly the victimization of women in a patriarchal world.
