Y entre estos relatos se intercalan joyas de otro tenor, como su primer texto publicado, «Él», o la inquietante y onírica novella «Y ya puede venir el perro», en la que una disputa entre vecinos desencadena un espiral de tensión y violencia que avanza hacia un clímax inapelable. Escritas entre 1981 y 2013, estas piezas breves comparten una enorme potencia expresiva que bebe del habitual estilo minimalista de Fosse, y nos permiten asistir al viaje de una voz única que ha ido puliéndose a lo largo de los años, demostrando que el cuento es otro de los modos recurrentes de su imaginación y que también constituyen uno de los mayores logros de su obra. In the title work, a loosely autobiographical narrative covers infancy to awkward adolescence, unearthing the moments of childhood that linger longest in the imagination. In And Then My Dog Will Come Back to Me, a haunting and dream-like novella, a dispute between neighbors escalates to an inexorable climax. Taken from various sources, the texts gathered here together for the first time demonstrate that the short story is one of the recurrent modes of Fosse's imagination, and occasions some of his greatest works.
